LookAtVietnam – After several weeks seated in reserve, striker Le Cong Vinh was allowed to play his first official match for the Portuguese Leixoes on October 4.

Cong Vinh played the entire 90 minutes of an important Leixoes match, in which the club defeated Leiria 3-2 in the seventh round of the Portuguese Championships.

He played as a left-winged striker, beside Leo and Tiago.

Previously, Cong Vinh was registered as a reserve player in matches against Porto and Gumarees, but he did not play. He was used as major striker in a match on October 4 because some key players were injured or suspended, including top striker Pouga, captain Nuno Silva, striker Faioli and four other players.

After the October 4 match, Cong Vinh explained: “Leixoes needed this victory, so the whole team struggled up to the final minute and we won. I’m very happy because my effort in practice over the past month in Portugal has been repaid. It is pity that I missed two chances to score goals. The coach’s positive comments after the match and the sweet triumph of Leixoes will be one of the most memorable events in my career!”

Before the match, Coach Mota stated: “He has progressed recently. But like other new players, Cong Vinh needs more time to integrate into the new environment. The opportunity is open for everyone if they try their utmost.”
