Thien will face Swedish Stefan Lindmark, who stunned top-seeded Thai Kong Pop Lertchai 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinal, in the first semi-final today.

Chi-San Jiao, who beat the sixth seed in the last 16 round, proved to be a giant killer when he beat second-seeded Ariez Elyaas Deen Heshaam 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-final to make the second semi-final clash against seventh-seeded Oskar Wickberg of Sweden.

Wickberg also surprised the crowd with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over Thai fourth-seeded Kittibodee Singnil in the quarter-final.

Third-seeded Huynh Phuong Dai Trang matched her semi-final appearance last year by beating Kristina Chasovskikh of Russia in straight sets. Trang won Chasovskikh 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals in the women’s singles event.

Trang will reach her first final at the tournament if she wins the girls’ singles semi-final match against Thai fifth-seeded Gornganok Tiraganok today.

The second semi-final is between unseeded Thai Areeporn Wanichayapanich and Anna Tyulpa.

Tyulpa stunned the top-seeded Indonesian 6-4, 6-2 while giant killer Wanichayapanich beat the Indonesian eight-seeded Dina Karina.

Home fourth-seeded pair Nguyen Hoang Thien and Ta Quoc Bao lost to Swedish pair Victor Sylwander and Oskar Wikberg in the semi-final of the boys’ doubles event.
