Nguyen Trong Hy was reelected as president of the Vietnam Football Federation

Nguyen Trong Hy was reelected as president of the Vietnam Football Federation at the body’s sixth-term meeting on Thursday as a sports official said the organization needed better player transfer procedures.

Hy has sought the spot unopposed by any other nominations.

Hy won 62 votes out of 69. Le Hung Dung was also reelected vice president of finance, winning 41 votes out of 67.

Pham Ngoc Vien was selected as vice president of football management after receiving more votes than incumbent Duong Vu Lam. The post of vice president of media went to Nguyen Lan Trung.

General secretary of the fifth term Tran Quoc Tuan will continue to hold the post in the sixth term. Nguyen Hai Huong and Chu Hong Thanh, who had withdrawn from the general management board, were chosen to continue managing the discipline and complaints offices.

At the meeting, Nguyen Danh Thai, deputy minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said VFF needed to open a department tasked with drafting long-term development strategies.

Thai also suggested introducing better mechanisms for the transfer of players among clubs. Thai said problems with player transfers had damaged the player market in Vietnam.
