Vietnam, Japan share honors in half marathon

Pham Thi Binh of Vietnam was the quickest woman and Nishida Takayuki of Japan the fastest man in the International Half-Marathon 2009 in Nha Trang on Sunday.

Binh covered the 21.1 kilometers in one hour, 24 minutes and 42.34 seconds ahead of compatriot Nguyen Thi Xuan Tot in second place and Tanigawa Mari of Japan in third.

Their respective times were one hour, 25 minutes and 51.39 seconds, and one hour, 26 minutes and 48.59 seconds.

Takayuki won the men’s race with a time of one hour, nine minutes and 34.49 seconds to beat second-placed Nguyen Truong Sinh and third-placed Nguyen Tan Tai, both of Vietnam.

Their respective times were one hour, 14 minutes and 6.71 seconds, and one hour, 14 minutes and 35.34 seconds.

The race in the central coast town drew almost 250 runners from Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, France and Vietnam.
