Vietnam’s Under-19 team suffered a 1-3 defeat to Thailand’s U21 side at the Pre-SEA (South East Asian) Games in Laos on Tuesday.

Having already lost to Malaysia’s U21s by the same margin two days earlier and drawing two-all with Laos’ U23s in the opener last Friday, the Vietnamese boys ended the friendly tournament in last place.

Laos won the championship after drawing 1-1 with Malaysia on Tuesday while Malaysia finished second and Thailand third.

U23 squads from Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia had originally signed up for the Pre-SEA Games tournament but Thailand decided to send its U21s at the last minute, prompting Vietnam and Malaysia to do the same.

The Vietnamese, Thai and Malaysian teams will fly to Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday to compete in the International U21 Football Tournament in adjacent Binh Duong Province from October 9-18.

U21 teams from Singapore and China will also participate in the third Thanh Nien-sponsored football event.
