Viet Nam’s gold medal hopes rest on top athlete Vu Thi Huong as she finished second in the women’s 200m semi-final with a time of 23.79 seconds on November 12.

Earlier, Huong, who won a silver medal in the 100m race on Wednesday, was faster than Saleh Murina of Syria and Delapalace Pemila Priadharshani of Sri Lanka in the 200 race for a semi-final berth with a time of 24.27.

The northern Thai Nguyen-born athlete and her teammates also qualified for final in the women’s 4×100 relay yesterday.

In the 200 heat at Guangdong Olympic Stadium, Le Thi Ngoc Phuong also booked a place in the semi-final with a time of 24.43sec, but she failed to qualify for final with result of 24.28 in semi-final race yesterday.

In the men’s and women’s 800 races yesterday, Vietnamese athletes Nguyen Dinh Cuong and Truong Thanh Hang failed to make the finals.

Cuong finished fifth in the men’s division in 1:54.08, while Hang, who won a bronze medal in the women’s 1,500 race on Wednesday, failed to make the final with at time of 2:06.45.
