Vu Thi Huong won the women’s 200m silver at the 18th Asian Athletics Championships in China on Friday, while compatriot Truong Thanh Hang took the bronze in the 800m race.

Huong, Southeast Asia’s sprint queen, covered the distance in 23.61 seconds to finish behind Takahashi Momoko of Japan who clocked 23.53 seconds.

It was an unfortunate setback for Huong who had recorded a time of 23.39 at the National Athletics Championships in September.

In the women’s 800m, Hang clocked two minutes 05.33 seconds, just 0.02 seconds slower than the silver medal winner Matsko Margarita of Kazakhstan. Zhou Haiyan of China took the gold with at a time of two minutes 04.89 seconds.

Like Huong, Hang was unable to match her National Athletics Championships time of two minutes 03.28 seconds.

On Wednesday, Huong had won the silver medal in the women’s 100m while Hang took the 1,500m bronze.

With the four medals, Vietnam was placed 13th in the medal table on Friday. The five-day event in Guangzhou ends Saturday (Nov. 14).
