National taekwondo clubs compete in Sunny Korea Cup; Amateur golfers charity features $500,000 pot; Viet Nam rank third at ASEAN Primary School Olympiad

The eighth National Taekwondo Clubs Tournament, Sunny Korea Cup, started yesterday in the central city of Da Nang.

Nearly 300 athletes from 39 teams nationwide are taking part in the event. They are competing in 27 events in kata (performance) and kumite (combat).

Organisers will apply the latest rules of the International Taekwondo Federation in this event.

Amateur golfers charity features $500,000 pot

As many as 200 amateur golfers will compete in the fourth Kinh Do Golf Tournament 2009 next Saturday at the HCM City’s Viet Nam Golf & Country Club for US$500,000.

The golfers, most of whom are businesspeople, will compete in four divisions. Players entry fees will go to charity.

In addition, the organisers will award prizes in the Men Division A, B and C, and Ladies’ Division.

Players who win the Men’s Divisions A and B, Ladies’ Division, Callaway and Gross Champion will later participate a tournament in Macau, China.

If someone hits a hole-in-one, they will receive one of the following awards, depending on the length of the shot: a luxury apartment in Sunrise City, a BMW 5231, a Mercedes C-Class C200K Elegance, a Toyota Camry 3.5 or a Toyota Vios 1.5.

Viet Nam rank third at ASEAN Primary School Olympiad

Viet Nam finished third at the ASEAN Primary School Sports Olympiad which wrapped up in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The 26-student team won three gold, six silver and four bronze medals. Indonesia and Singapore were the first and second, respectively.

The event attracted U-12 students from eight ASEAN nations to compete in five events of football, table tennis, chess, badminton and athletics.
