Gold medallists at SEA Games to receive cash prize; National athletes to enjoy grand SEA Games send-off in Ha Noi; Military Sport Games to be held in December
The federations responsible for football, volleyball, shooting and sepak takraw have also announced bonuses for medal winners. National athletes to enjoy grand SEA Games send-off in Ha Noi Viet Nam’s national athletes will gather at the Ha Noi Opera House this Sunday for a ceremonial send-off as they depart for Laos for the 25th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. The ceremony is a traditional morale-boosting event. Around 400 athletes from Ha Noi and HCM City will compete in 19 of 25 scheduled events from December 9-18. Viet Nam have eyes firmly set on a top three finish, to match their 2007 SEA Games performance in Thailand where they left with 64 gold medals, behind Thailand and Malaysia. To achieve a top three finish, Viet Nam will have to claim between 60-70 gold medals. Military Sport Games to be held in December The Military Sport Games, showcasing Vietnamese soldiers’ athletic and military skills, will kick off at the Mieu Mon Shooting Range on December 15, the organising committee said yesterday. The Games expect to draw 2,800 soldiers and militiamen from 47 teams competing in a marathon, military decathlon, shooting and martial arts. The annual tournament, which is a major army sporting event, is part of preparations for the National Games in Da Nang next year. According to organisers, the Games will encourage professional soldiers to improve their physical strength and military skills. HCM City flex their muscles at national bodybuilding event HCM City team triumphed at the National Bodybuilding Championship that wrapped up in the central coastal city of Da Nang. They won seven golds, six silvers and three bronzes, while Agifish An Giang finished second with three golds, seven silvers and one bronze.
