Vietnam’s badminton hope Nguyen Tien Minh has bowed out of the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open Super Series.

The world’s No. 8 lost 22-20, 21-19, 21-19 to 28th-ranked Malaysian Hashim Muhammad Hafiz in the second round of the US$250,000 event on Thursday.

Despite the defeat, Minh, the only Vietnamese in the world’s top 100, is unlikely to drop out of the world’s top 10.

Other big names like 9th-ranked Indonesian Kuncoro Dwi Sony, 10th-ranked Thai Ponsana Boonsak, 11th-ranked Chinese Chen Long and 13th-ranked Malaysian Wong Choong Hann have all crashed out of the tournament as well.
