LookAtVietnam – The national women’s football team will face an array of strong teams in the final round of the Asian Women’s Football Championship.

Work cut out: Viet Nam women’s football team have been drawn in the “group of death” at the Asian Women’s Football Championship.

Group A will see Thailand, defending champion North Korea, Japan, and Myanmar compete for the other semi-final places.

Viet Nam reached the final round after beating Kyrgyzstan 10-1 and Hong Kong 7-0 in the qualifying round.

As hosts of the event last year, Viet Nam were grouped with China against whom they lost 1-0. They also lost 3-0 against North Korea, only recording a 1-0 victory over Thailand.

In Group B, China are expected to secure a place in the semi-final, while Viet Nam, Australia and South Korea will compete for the remaining place. In this race, Viet Nam will struggle to qualify as their Group B opponents Australia and South Korea has already inflicted defeats on Viet Nam earlier in the year.

The tournament will take place in China on May 19-30.

As scheduled, Viet Nam, who have trained in Japan, will meet Australia on May 20, China two days later, and then South Korea on May 24.

The event’s champion and two runners-up will represent Asia at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, to be held in Germany from June 26 to July 17 next year.
