Hosts Vietnam grabbed an impressive 12 gold medals at the Asian Indoor Games on Saturday to stay in second place behind China.

Vietnam now has 41 gold, 29 silver and 21 bronze medals after nine days of the 10-day competition.

China has 47 gold, 23 silver and 18 bronze medals while third-placed Kazakhstan has 21 gold, 15 silver and 21 bronze medals.

Before the regional contest began on October 30, hosts Vietnam had set themselves the goal of winning 15-20 gold medals and being among the top eight teams.

They have exceeded expectations and will have special cause for celebration as the games close on Sunday (November 8).
