According to tournament rules, the top two teams from each of the seven groups, along with best third-placed team from the East and West regions qualify for next year’s finals.

In Group G, Malaysia finished third with only nine points while in Group F, Australia thrashed Singapore 8-0 and Japan beat Hong Kong 3-0 in the third round on Thursday.

Since the third-placed team of Group F cannot match Vietnam’s 12 points, the country gets to qualify.
