The championship attracted competitors from six provinces and cities including Hanoi, Hai Duong, Ho CHi Minh City, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong and Binh Phuoc.

Many are leading fencers who have won national and international prizes such as Tran Thi Len from Hai Duong, Bui Van Thai from Hanoi, and Tong Van Thuong from Bac Ninh.

There will be three events including Sabre, Epee and Foil with 12 sets of medals, six for individuals and six for teams.

In the individual competition, there will be a qualifying round and a knock-out round while the team competition includes a knock-out round to select the two best teams for the final.

The opening ceremony was followed by a women’s epee individual tie and one from the men’s foil individual.

In the women’s epee individual, Tran Thi Len (Hai Duong) won the gold medal while the silver medal went to Ha Thi Sen (Hanoi) and the bronze to Doan Thi Yen (Hai Duong) and Nguyen Thi Nhu Hoa (Hanoi).

In the men’s foil individual, the gold medal went to Bui Van Thai (Hanoi), Nguyen Van Dac (Hanoi) won the silver while Tran Van Anh (Hanoi) and Cao Quoc Cuong (HCM City) won the bronze.

The tournament will last until December 7.
