LookAtVietnam – Viet Nam’s rapid fire pistol team grabbed the ninth gold medal in the SEA Games shooting event yesterday, December 16.

Veteran Pham Cao Son, 39, and the two youngsters Pham Anh Dat and Ha Minh Thanh scored total 1,666 points to open a 14 point gap with second placed Malaysia team.

Thailand took the bronze.

“It’s been a tense competition today for me and my teammates because rapid fire pistol is always a challenge. You can get problems with the pistol or bullets at any time,” Son said.

“However, the team event today went really smoothly for us and we deserved to win the gold,” he added.

In the final 20 shots, the Philippines’ Nathaniel Pangilina Padila won the individual gold medal with 753.2 points.

During the final shots, the electronic scoring system had technical problems, which delayed the final announcement of the silver and bronze medal winner for half an hour.

Finally, the organising committee decided to arrange a shoot-off series for Vietnamese Son and Malaysian Hasli Izwan Amir Hasan.

Viet Nam will eye an overall triumph today and tomorrow in the men’s centre fire pistol and women’s pistol.
