Xuan eyes fifth SEA Games title; Vietnamese in Laos excited for Games; Reporters get set to cover Games

Wrestler Man Ba Xuan eyes on a fifth Southeast Asian Games gold medal in Laos next week.

Xuan, 32, who has outclassed all opposition at four previous SEA Games, is still in top form, and is expected to dominate in the heavy weight 84kg class in men’s Greco-Roman event.

At the 24th SEA Games in Thailand two years ago, Xuan took only 40 seconds to beat Malcus Valda from the Philippines.

Vietnamese in Laos excited for Games

Vietnamese people, who are living in Vientiane, are eager to see the Vietnamese sport delegation at the SEA Games next week.

There are over 30,000 Vietnamese people living in Laos, of which 5,000 reside in the Lao capital.

In anticipation of the SEA Games, the community have hung banners and flags at their restaurants and cafes in Patuxay.

Tickets for the opening and closing ceremony are offered with 350,000 kip (about US$40)each.

Reporters get set to cover Games

Around 250 Vietnamese reporters officially registered to attend the SEA Games, according to Viet Nam Olympic Committee.

However, officials said other journalists have also sent their registration directly to SEA Games Organising Committee.

The SEA Games’ Main Press Centre was opened last week for journalists from 10 Southeast Asian countries working during the 10-day games.

It’s expected that over 400 reporters will be in Laos during the SEA Games, which will be opened next Wednesday.
