LookAtVietnam – The 22nd SEA Games gold medalist Pham Thi Ha won a bronze medal in the women’s 25m pistol in Vientiane SEA Games yesterday, December 17.

Ha, 30, who won a silver medal in the team event with Dang Thi Tuyet Mai and Bui Thi Thuy Hanh in qualification yesterday morning, started fiercely in the final 20 shots for individual gold medal in the afternoon.

But she faced tough opponents Prucksakorn Tannyaporn from Thailand and Bibiana Pei Chin Ng of Malaysia in a tense 15 minutes final shoot at the National Sport Complex.

The Thai star Prucksakorn took the gold for her perfect performance of 782,2 points, surpassing the old record of 773 points set by Vietnamese Nguyen Thu Van at the Thailand SEA Games two years ago.

Malaysian Bibiana also broke the SEA Games record, but her result 775.9 points only brought her a silver medal.

Ha scored 769.8 points for the bronze.

“We have seen a real tussle between Vietnamese, Malaysia and Thai athletes over the past decade. But this time, the Thai sharp shooter did better than Viet Nam both in team and individual event,” said pistol team coach Pham Tuan Dung.

The last competition day of shooting events at the SEA Games, will see experienced trio Pham Cao Son,39, Hoang Xuan Vinh and two-time Olympian Nguyen Manh Tuong compete for the final gold for Viet Nam in the men’s individual and team centre-fire pistol just before the closing ceremony is held at the Main Stadium today.

The shooting team has collected nine golds at SEA Games.
