V-League champions Da Nang will try to win a berth in the Asian Football Confederation Champions League, club president Bui Xuan Hoa said on Friday.

Hoa made the statement after AFC announced the results of the draw of the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup 2010; and there was a rumor that Da Nang would choose to play in the latter tournament, which is less competitive by not trying to win play-off matches.

Hoa said, “Da Nang wouldn’t deliberately miss the chance to play in Asia’s top-tier contest intended for AFC best clubs.

“Club owner Do Quang Hien has asked the whole team to do our best to win a berth in the most important competition for Asia’s superior clubs.”

Hoa said Da Nang would not let Vietnam lose face by losing to Thailand’s champs Muangthong United.

If Da Nang takes a home win over Muangthong United on January 30, 2010, it will play an away match on February 6 against the winner of the match between SAFFC from Singapore and Sriwijaya from Indonesia.

If Da Nang wins again, it will advance to the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2010 to be in Group G against Gamba Osaka of Japan, Suwon Samsung Bluewings of South Korea and Henan Construction from China.

Hoa said Da Nang’s main goal is to defend the V-League title but it would do its best for the national pride on the international stage.

Meanwhile, V-League runners-up Binh Duong will play in the second-tier competition AFC Cup where it will be in Group F against Victory from Maldives, Selangor from Malaysia and the loser of the match between SAFFC from Singapore and Indonesian club Sriwijaya.
