LookAtVietnam – It was a day of Viet Nam’s shooting team at the SEA Games yesterday, December 15, with marksmen bagging four gold medals.

Ngo Huu Vuong won a gold medal in the men’s individual 10m running target mixed with a score of 372 points, while Nguyen Van Tung took the silver and Thailand’s Klomjai Witsanu, the bronze.

Trio Vuong, Tung and Do Duc Hung also won gold medal in the team event with a new SEA Games record of 1,097 points, surpassing the old one of 1,076 from the 22nd SEA Games.

Thailand ranked second and Indonesia came third.

In the men’s three position 50m rifle, Vietnamese sharp shooters gained a total of 3,428 points, 28 points more than Malaysia, who finished second and Thailand, third.

Young rifle shooter Pham Ngoc Thanh did a good job in the men’s individual final where he scored 1,252.5 points to take the gold – the eighth gold for the shooting team.

Thanh’s teammate Vu Thanh Hung accumulated 1,242.9 to rank second for the silver medal.

The world champion Majchacheep Varavut of Thailand could only manage 1,240.1 to come third.

“Our athletes have had a perfect day of competition taking four gold medals in one day. Thanh was superb, for me he was the best athlete of the day,” said the team coach Nguyen Thi Nhung.

“In the Southeast Asian region, Viet Nam still dominates in the three position rifle event. I hope our athletes will claim more medals in other pistol events in the last two days of shooting,” Nhung said.

Pistol shooter Pham Thi Ha also said she will do her best to win the gold medal in the women’s event tomorrow.
