Sprinter Vu Thi Huong took the first gold for Vietnam’s track and field in the 25th Southeast Asian Games in Laos Sunday after winning the 100-meter race. Her teammate Le Ngoc Phuong won the silver.

In the final race at 5pm, Huong finished first after 11 seconds 34 at the National Sports Complex in Vientiane. Her medal was the 25th gold for the Vietnamese contingent in the SEA Games.

Phuong was second just before a Thai athlete. The referees managed to identify the silver medalist based on video recording, leaving the bronze to the Thai woman.

Vu Thi Huong is a star sprinter in Southeast Asia. She won the double (both 100m and 200m) gold medal at the 2007 SEA Games in Thailand, and the 100m gold and 200m silver at the 2005 Games in the Philippines. At the first SEA Games in her career, in 2003 in Vietnam, she won bronze in the 100m and silver in the 4×100 relay with the Vietnam team.
