First Division to kick off today

The National First Division Tournament starts today, January 30, at six stadiums nationwide. This is the second biggest football tournament in Vietnam only after V-League.

The tournament draws the participation of 14 teams. However, when the opening day comes near, Thanh Hoa had withdrawn. Therefore, the Organising Board has decided that there are only 13 teams including Hanoi ACB, Viettel, Binh Dinh, Dong Nai, Quang Nam, Hue city, Can Tho, An Giang, Tay Ninh, TDC Binh Duong, Tien Giang, Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh Coal.

13 teams will compete for two tickets to play at V-League next season while the two bottom-placed teams will be relegated.

According to the fixture, Hang Day stadium in Hanoi tomorrow will host the derby between Hanoi ACB and Viettel. The other matches are among Binh Dinh – Dong Nai, Quang Nam – Hue, Can Tho – An Giang, Tay Ninh – TDC Binh Duong, Tien Giang – Ho Chi Minh City. Quang Ninh Coal will not play this week.

Last season, 547,600 spectators in total or 3,510 per match came to stadium. There were as many as 373 goals, average 2,39 goals per match. Eduardo H.Furrier from Quang Ninh was the top scorer with 16 goals. Ninh Binh and Hoa Phat qualified to play at V-League this season. Meanwhile, Quang Ngai was eliminated from the tournament because they had quit the game against Saigon United and Saigon United were relegated.

With the teams’ good preparation, First Division 2010 promises to bring spectators a lot of exciting games.
