Vietnam’s badminton star Nguyen Tien Minh lost in straight sets to world number one Malaysian Lee Chong Wei in the semifinals of Malaysia Open Super Series 2010 on Saturday.

Minh, who moved one spot to 10th in the world men’s singles rankings this week, tried very hard in the first set and at one time was leading 16-12.

However, Lee fought back fiercely and equalized the score at 20-20 before winning the set 22-20.

In the second set, Lee went from strength to strength, and Minh lost control of the match, losing 11-21.

In six clashes with Lee, Minh has beaten the world number one only once; in Singapore in June, 2009.

Though he couldn’t make his way to the finals, Minh, the only Vietnamese to enter the world top 100, received 6,420 points and is set to move up a few notches in the Badminton World Federation rankings to be released on Monday (January 25).
