V-League club Nam Dinh is out of the NaviBank Cup after a 0-1 loss to South Korea’s Chung Ang University on Thursday and a 0-4 defeat to Hoang Anh Gia Lai on Tuesday.

The South Koreans played simple football but were able to score the opener just seven minutes into the match. That proved sufficient as Nam Dinh’s strikers failed to convert many chances created, although the team controlled the match better. Nam Dinh also lost Hoang Nhat Nam who was sent off shortly after the break.

In the other Group B match, V-League powerhouse Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) beat HCMC Club 3-0 with Viet Cuong, Minh Thien and Evaldo scoring one goal each.

HAGL now tops the group with six points while HCMC Club and Chung Ang University have three points each.

The group stage has one more round to go and HAGL has the biggest chance to advance at the NaviBank Cup.

The NaviBank Cup 2010 has attracted seven local teams and one from South Korea’s Chung Ang University.

The event, which is held by Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation, kicked off on Monday and will end next Wednesday.

Most of the local teams at the contest consider it a good chance to test their players, especially new footballers from abroad, to prepare for the 2010 football season.
