Vietnam’s tennis hope Nguyen Hoang Thien has leapt 126 places from the 497th place to 371st spot in the International Tennis Federation’s juniors rankings released on Monday.

Thien has 9,125 points and is the youngest player among the world’s top 400 young players. He was born on March 12, 1995 while the other young players were born between1992 and 1994.

Thien, who won the Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship in Florida last month, has made such a long jump because lots of players have turned 18 and can’t be included in the list of junior players.

Additionally, in 2009, Thien earned a lot of points by performing in international competitions. He reached the semifinals of the Under-18 ITF Becamex Binh Duong, the U18 ITF Techcombank Hanoi and the U18 ITF Singapore.

He also made his way to the quarterfinals at the U18 ITF Ireland; and took the men’s doubles championship at the U18 ITF Techcombank Hanoi tournament.

In local contests, Thien won the men’s singles title at the national U18 Championship.
