Nguyen Tien Minh has jumped two places to eighth in rankings released Thursday by the World Badminton Federation.

Minh, the only Vietnamese player to enter the world top 100 ranking, made the jump after making it to the semifinals of Malaysia Open 2010 Super Series earlier this month where he lost to eventual champion and World No.1, Malaysian Lee Chong Wei.

Wei took the championship on Sunday, January 24, after beating Thailand’s top player Boonsak Ponsana.

This is not Minh’s best place in the world rankings so far. He was ranked 7th in September last year but dropped a few places because he did not compete in a few international contests.

Minh can climb further up the rankings in the near future because he now has 51,750 points and is just 721 points adrift of seventh-ranked Ponsana, who jumped five places this week because he reached the finals of the tournament in Malaysia.
