V-League 2009 runners-up Binh Duong hammered Thanh Hoa 6-2 in the opener of the V-League 2010 season on Sunday.

Thanh Hoa was playing at home but looked far inferior to the 2007-2008 V-League champs.

Binh Duong, the 2008 V-League champions who made their way to AFC Cup semifinals last year and was ranked among Asia’s top 10 clubs by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS)’s ratings released late last month, looked strong on their road back to the top.

In Nha Trang, powerhouse Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) suffered a 2-4 away defeat to Khanh Hoa.

At Hanoi’s Hang Day Stadium, T&T Hanoi beat their neighbors Hoa Phat Hanoi 2-1, although top striker Le Cong Vinh didn’t score a goal as he had predicted.

In other action, Nam Dinh and Dong Thap fought to a 2-2 draw at Thien Truong Stadium while Song Lam Nghe An drew Navibank Saigon 1-1 at Vinh Stadium.

At Ninh Binh Stadium, the match between the hosts and V-League 2005-06 champs Dong Tam Long An ended in a scoreless draw.

In the opener of the second-tier First Division on Saturday, Tay Ninh beat TDC Binh Duong 2-1 while HCMC Club lost 1-2 to Tien Giang.

Binh Dinh, Can Tho and Quang Nam were held to scoreless draws by Dong Nai, An Giang and Huda Hue city, respectively while Hanoi ACB drew 1-1 with Viettel.
