Thien wins boys’ doubles title in Oman

Vietnam’s 15-year-old tennis prodigy Nguyen Hoang Thien and Vietnamese Austrian Nguyen Matthaeus won the boys’ doubles championship at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Oman Open 2010 in Muscat on Friday.

Second-seeds Thien and Matthaeus beat top seeds Elkheshen and Wakim from Egypt in straight sets.

With scores tied 6-6 in the first set, Thien and Matthaeus combined exceptionally to win the tie-break 7-3 before cruising to a 6-3 win in the second set.

Earlier, Thien and Matthaeus had taken straight set wins over Indians Patil and Rajesh in the first round, Iranian Madanchi and Indian Tokas in the quarterfinals and Egyptians Elsallali and Zazou in the semifinals.
