Most members of Ho Chi Minh City’s table-tennis team have asked to stop playing for the city, upset with the behavior of the sport’s department chief.

The players and their parents on Tuesday sent a letter expressing their discontent to newspapers, the management of the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, leaders of Sports and Physical Training School and coaching staff of HCMC table-tennis team.

Their complaints were mainly directed at Nguyen Thi Lanh, chief of the table-tennis department.

Tran Anh Tuan, father of Tran Nguyen Thanh Truc, said: “We can’t stand Lanh’s arbitrary way and lack of respect for other people.

“Lanh frequently reprimands players during a match or right after they’ve finished.”

Nguyen Thanh Rum, Director of HCMC’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, planned to meet the players and parents next Tuesday (February 9) but later asked Deputy Director Nguyen Hung to meet with them last Friday (February 5).
