Nine national records were made on the fourth day of the National Swimming Tournament 2010 in Hanoi on March 18.

Da Nang’s Hoang Quy Phuoc won the gold, breaking the national record at 57.68 seconds in men’s 100m mixed style category. In women’s 50m breast stroke, HCM City’s Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen was the winner, breaking the national record at 28.61 seconds. Quang Ninh’s Duong Thi Thom also broke the national record in this category, at 30.03 seconds.

Hoang Quy Phuoc won another gold medal in men’s 100m freestyle at 49.50 seconds, making his second national record on the same day. The silver medal winner of this category, Quang Binh province’s Nguyen Van Ty also broke the national record, with 50.36 seconds.

In women’s 100m freestyle, HCM City’s Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen won the gold medal and made a national record at 50.36 seconds, the second gold medal and record on that day.

An Giang’s Vo Thai Nguyen made a national record at men’s 200m butterfly with 1.59.55 minutes while HCM City’s Tran Tam Nguyen made a national record at women’s 50m freestyle at 26.68 seconds.

Hai Phong’s Huu Viet won the gold medal for men’s 50m breast stroke in 27.93 seconds.

In the women’s 400m relay category, HCM City won the fourth gold medal of the day with 3.59.79 seconds, while the Army team took the gold medal for men’s 400m relay at 7.53.53 minutes, another national record.

It is said that this “rain of records” was made because the Vietnam Aquatic Sport Federation still allows swimmers to use hi-tech swimming suits that are banned at international competitions.
