Hoang Anh Gia Lai beat Binh Duong on the penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw in the last quarter-final of the National Cup at Pleiku stadium on March 29.

From the start, hosts Hoang Anh Gia Lai played defence-attack game against powerhouse Binh Duong. In the 37th minute, the hosts took the lead when Van Truong scored his super free-kick goal.

Nine minutes into the second half, Kesley scored the equaliser for Binh Duong from Elenildo’s cross. After the goal, Binh Duong put pressure on Hoang Anh Gia Lai, creating a lot of chances to score but all their strikes were saved by goalkeeper Silhavy.

Having ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, the match was decided by the penalty shoot-out.

It was Silhavy who saved skipper Quang Thanh’s sixth penalty shot, earning Hoang Anh Gia Lai a berth in the National Cup semi-finals.

Earlier, Da Nang, Song Lam Nghe An and Nam Dinh reached the semis after beating Dong Thap 4-0, Hoa Phat Hanoi 2-1 and Ninh Binh 1-0 respectively.

As a result, Da Nang will take on Hoang Anh Gia Lai on April 24 and Nam Dinh will play against Song Lam Nghe An on April 25 in the semis.
