T&T Hanoi’s Le Cong Vinh has resumed drilling with his team while the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) considers petitions for commutation of the disciplinary action.

Shocked by his six-match suspension, Cong Vinh claimed he would say goodbye to football if his punishment is not lessened. Just one week later, he has regained his balance and admitted that his statement was another spontaneous reaction.

“This is the first time in my life I’ve suffered such a heavy penalty,” he explained. “I was shocked, so I claimed I would say goodbye to my career, but now I have calmed down. Cong Vinh needs to be stronger, so I accept the penalty and will wait for the day of my return.”

The striker is practicing with his team. “I must return and play football better to correct my fault. I’m practicing more diligently than ever. I must pay for my mistake. I still hope to have my suspension commuted!” he added.

According a VFF Appeals Division member, T&T Hanoi’s petition may not be approved because the Appeal Division agrees with the VFF Disciplinary Board to apply Article 39 in his case (six matches of suspension and a 10 million dong fine), not Article 62 (at least 2 matches of suspension and a 5 million dong fine) as the club suggested.

Yet, Cong Vinh’s petition may be a foundation for the Appeal Division to grant relief. According to VFF officials, Cong Vinh admitted his mistake and apologized to the coach and fans. He has greatly contributed to the national squad as well. It is highly possible that Cong Vinh will be suspended for four matches, not six. The decision will be released later this week.
