Tien Minh enters Swiss Super Series 2010 quarterfinals

Trouncing the world 35th-ranked badminton player, Vietnam’s top player, Nguyen Tien Minh, has entered the quarterfinals of the Swiss Super Series 2010 tournament.

Tien Minh had a rough start, but he tried to equalize 16-16 and won in the first set at 21-18.

In the second set, he took the initiative to finish at 21-18 and obtain a final score of 2-0 after 38 minutes. This victory will help Tien Minh remain firmly at the 7th position in the world.

His rival in the upcoming round will be the winner in a match between China’s Chen Jin, the world’s 4th-ranked player, and Denmark’s Joachim Persson, the world’s 25th-ranked player.

In related news, after the All-England tournament, Tien Minh and some top players like Indonesia’s former Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat, Britain’s Nathan Robertson, Chinese former champion of All England tournament Zhou Mi, Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat, France’s Pi Hongyan and Denmark’s Jan Jorgensen contributed to the Solibad charity foundation.

This foundation is set up by a French photographer, Raphael Sachetat, with a French name of Badminton sans frontiers (Badminton without Borders). The foundation aims to raise fund from badminton players to support small projects.

The badminton players will be ambassadors for Solibad.

Solibad has implemented two projects to assist orphans in Bali (Indonesia) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). This foundation has also joined with Peace and Sport to carry out a project entitled “1000 rackets for Haiti” to help Haitian young people after the recent earthquake. This foundation is considering some projects in Vietnam, Brazil, the Philippines, Madagascar and China.
