Chung, former assistant to the chief coach of the national football squad, Henrique Calisto, was replaced after his team was defeated by T&T Hanoi on April 11. Previously, his team had also not played well.
Binh Duong Chief Tran Van Duong noted that the replacement didn’t stem from the failure on April 11, but rather a carefully-considered plan. Three weeks ago, Dang Tran Chinh was appointed as the club’s technical director and assistant to coach Mai Duc Chung. At that time, the team had two losing matches at V-League and a draw in the Asian Football Cup (AFC Cup).
With Chinh’s presence, the team played better at boat V-League and AFC Cup. Before the failure on April 11, the team had two successful matches at V-League and one good match at AFC Cup.
Mai Duc Chung joined Binh Duong club in mid-2009 and helped the team win second place at V-League 2009 and enter the semi-finals of AFC Cup. It was hoped that Chung would bring Binh Duong to the V-League and National Cup Championship 2010 and play well at AFC Cup. However, the team was rejected from the National Cup and it currently ranks fourth in V-League.
After eight rounds of V-League 2010, Binh Duong is the third club to switch its chief coach, after Dong Tam Long and and Vissai Ninh Binh.
