The national football squad’s chief coach Henrique Calisto doesn’t want to waste stars, especially the former “golden boy” of Vietnam’s football, striker Van Quyen.

Calisto was always cold when asked about Van Quyen’s return to the national team. However, before the team groups up to prepare for a friendly game against Germany’s Frankfurt, Calisto suddenly asked the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to propose FIFA to shorten the suspension penalty on three Vietnamese players – Van Quyen, Van Truong and Quoc Vuong.
Five years ago, they were amound the group of seven players who were involved in the match-fixing scandal at the U23 squad. The three players are allowed to play football at domestic tournaments but they can’t play in international games under a FIFA’s penalty. This means that they are not allowed to join the Vietnamese national squad.
“Coach Calisto asked VFF Disciplinary board to ask for FIFA’s relief for these players,” said VFF Disciplinary Board’s chief Nguyen Hai Huong.
However, VFF believes that these players need to be tested further and they need to better prove their repentance.
Previously the VFF asked for FIFA’s relief for some players like Quoc Anh, Hai Lam and Phuoc Vinh, who were also involved in match-fixing scandals.
In related news to the national squad, striker Le Cong Vinh’s injury is recovering and he may have a chance to play the upcoming game against Frankfurt.
