Disagreeing with a referee’s decision, Coach Trang Van Thanh of Dong Thap Province’s U19 team rushed the field to choke referee Ngo Duc Viet during a match at Vinh Stadium on April 5.

Quang Ninh Coal and Dong Thap entered the final round of the U19 Football Tournament 2009 in Nghe An province yesterday. Dong Thap played well, but couldn’t score a goal in the first half.

In the second half, Quang Ninh made a sudden attack with a goal in the 80^th minute. Two minutes after the goal, Quang Ninh lost their half-back, who received two yellow cards. Dong Thap immediately attacked to force a draw, but their efforts failed as Quang Ninh defended their goal heavily.

Quang Ninh was declared the winner and become the new champion of the U19 Football Tournament 2010.

While Quang Ninh happily shared their joy with the audience, Dong Thap’s coach suddenly ran on the field and began strangling referee Ngo Duc Viet. At that time, the medal presentation ceremony was ongoing, so the organizing board did not see the attack. Others nearby jumped in to stop the coach.

Dong Thap’s coach complained that his team was treated unfairly and their compensation time was not long enough, so Dong Thap could not score a goal.

The organizing board later announced that referee Viet did his job well and that Coach Thanh will be penalized.
