The capital secured two gold medals on the first day of the National Wushu Tournament, which opened in the capital on Thursday as part of the sixth National Sports Games.

Nguyen Manh Quyen brought home a gold in the men’s changquan (long fist) event with 9.75 points, while Tran Thi Minh Huyen gave an excellent performance to score 9.52 points for gold in the women’s taijijian (sword) event. The women’s gold was shared with Nguyen Thi My Le from the northern province of Thai Binh.

The other gold medals went to Nguyen Quoc Hoai Nam from HCM City after he earned 9.65 points in the men’s nanquan (southern fist). In the same event, both female athletes, Pham Thi Van of northern Vinh Phuc Province and Pham Thi Hong Ngoc of Dong Nai Province, earned 9.42 points to share the gold.

In the women’s changquan event, the gold medal went to police martial artist Duong Thuy Vi, who scored 9.72 points.

Three hundred martial artists from 31 teams nationwide are taking part in the event at the Quan Ngua Sports Complex in Ha Noi. They will compete in combat events.
