Hai Phong club fined for its naughty fans

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has imposed a 60 million dong fine on Hai Phong club for losing control over the team’s fans in a match against Hanoi T&T last weekend.
During the April 4 match, Hai Phong fans threw water bottles, plastic bags and other objects onto the field. They also insulted referees and guest football players. After the match, fans grouped up in front of stand A and broke down the glass window of the press room.
VFF has announced a 35 million dong fine on the club for letting its fans throw items on the field, plus 25 million dong for allowing its audience to insult referees and guest players. This is the second time Hai Phong has been fined at V-League 2010 due to its overzealous fans. Previously, the team had to pay a fine worth 20 million dong when its fans burnt flares in the match against Dong Tam Long An in the sixth round.
The media doesn’t agree with VFF’s fine, saying that it is too gentle for Hai Phong because, for the last three years, Hai Phong’s fans have caused 12 similar scandals, but VFF didn’t consider the latest case as a repeat offence. The media claims that these violations are systemic, so the fine must be more serious to put an end to this behaviour.
VFF Disciplinary Board Chief Nguyen Hai Huong commented that VFF cannot view the recent case as a repeat offence, since they count violations annually.
