LookAtVietnam – Indonesian tennis players won both the singles and doubles events at the National Men’s Tennis Open, Tanimex Cup, yesterday, April 4.

Victorious: The men’s singles winner, Ketut Nesa Arta (centre) of Indonesia, stands on the podium during the awards ceremony yesterday at the Tanimex Sports Centre in HCM City’s Tan Binh District.

Indonesian Ketut Nesa Arta beat Thai Pongsiri Niroj 7-5, 6-3 in the men’s singles final for a cash-prize of US$2,500.

“I am lucky. The tournament had some good players but I won it,” the 28-year-old Indonesian said.

“All my matches were difficult because my opponents are strong and experienced.”

Arta broke early in the first set for a 3-1 lead.

Niroj, who had a hard-fought, three-hour match against Christopher Rungkat in the semi-final, fought off fatigue to level at 5-5 but Arta was the stronger of the pair, taking the 11th and 12th games thanks to unforced errors from Niroj to clinch the first set 7-5.

Arta broke in the first and sixth games of the second set to lead 5-3 and broke Niroj again, this time to love, to close out the match and seal the overall title.

In the men’s double event, Arta and Christopher Rungkat also thrashed Vietnamese duo Do Minh Quan and Le Quoc Khanh in straight sets.

Arta and Rungkat, who won a bronze medal at the Laos SEA Games, dominated to win the first set, 6-1 after 20 minutes.

The Vietnamese duo fought back to take two games in the second set, but Arta and Rungkat rallied to win the set, 6-2.
