HCM City’s international great master Le Quang Liem defeated Hanoi’s Nguyen Anh Dung to win the men’s National Chess Championship 2010, earning an award of 80 million dong.

Liem and Dung played two matches, one on April 2 and another on April 3. Liem won the first match and the second match ended in a tie.

Liem had no losing match in this tournament. He topped the qualifying round with 7.5 points, including 6 wins and three draws. In the semi-final round, the 20-year-old player had a win and a draw.

Ranking second, Nguyen Anh Dung received 45 million dong. Nguyen Duc Hoa won 20 million dong for taking third position.

In the women’s tournament, Hue city’s Hoang Thi Bao Tram and Can Tho’s Pham Le Thao Nguyen drew in two final matches. In the tie-breaking match, Bao Tram defeated Thao Nguyen to become champion and received 60 million dong. Thao Nguyen received 25 million dong for second place and Le Thien Kim finished third, winning 15 million dong.
