Duc named coach of the month; U-17 football champs to be held; Chess GM dies from stroke at 53
Da Nang’s Le Huynh Duc has been named V-League coach of the month for March. It’s the second time the 38-year-old has won the title. The central team currently ranks second in the V-League. Last year, he was the youngest Vietnamese coach to lead a team to victory in the V-League. It was the first time in 17 years Da Nang have won the title. U-17 football champs to be held Twenty-five teams will compete in the National U-17 Football Championship in Da Nang this June, the tournament organisers announced. The annually championship is organised by Bong Da (Football) Newspaper. Six teams will qualify for the final round along with defending champions Song Lam Nghe An and hosts Da Nang, who were awarded byes. Chess GM dies from stroke at 53 International Chinese chess grand master Mai Thanh Minh died from a stroke on Sunday. He was 53. In 1994, he became the first Vietnamese Chinese chess player to be awarded IGM status by the World Chinese Chess Federation. The Nam Dinh-born player won the National Championship four times in a row from 1992-95. At the World Chinese Chess Championship in China he finished in the top ten in 1993 and 1994.
