53 foreigners to take part in int’l judo tourney in Hanoi
About 110 martial artists, including 53 from the Republic of Korea, Laos, Hong Kong, Germany and France, will compete in the 2010 International Judo Tournament to be held in Hanoi on April 17-18.
They will be divided into eight weight categories for both men and women to compete for 16 sets of medals.
Vietnam will send national hopefuls such as Van Ngoc Tu, Nguyen Thi Kieu and Nguyen Nhat Thong to the tournament. Athletes from the national junior Judo team will also take part in the event.
Korean athletes are expected to grab between 8-10 gold medals to top the medal tally.
Sepak takraw athletes to take part in Korea Open championship
Luu Thi Thanh, Nguyen Hai Thao, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy and seven other top players will fly to the Republic of Korea on April 15 for the Sepak Takraw Korea Open championship.
The Vietnamese players will participate in both team and double events.
This is a good opportunity for them to learn more about their rivals in preparation for the 16th Asian Game (ASIAD 16) in China where they hope to defend their champion title.
The open championship is scheduled to close on April 20.
National women’s football team prepares for Asian cup
The national women’s football squad will gather at the National Sports Training Centre No.1 in Hanoi from April 16-May 6 to prepare for the final round of the Asian Football Cup (AFC).
The national squad will include manager Nguyen Trong Giap, head coach Vu Ba Dong and 22 players.
On May 7, the team will arrive in China and train in either Chengdu or Guangzhou before attending the AFC, which is scheduled for May 19-30.
In the tournament, Vietnam will face Australia on May 20, the Republic of Korea on May 22 and China on May 24.
Anh Dung wins silver medal in Malaysian Chess Open
Vietnamese chess player Nguyen Anh Dung on April 12 won a silver medal at the 2010 Malaysia Open Chess Tournament, scoring 7.
The championship title was granted to Chinese player, Hou Yifan, with a score of 7.5.
The Chinese player was also chosen as No 2 seed for the tournament with an Elo (Correspondence Chess League of America Rating System) rating of 2570.
Dong Thap top national judo clubs championship
With three golds, two silvers and two bronzes, Dong Thap claimed the first position at the 2010 National Judo Clubs Championship which wrapped up in the southern province of Bac Lieu yesterday.
Ben Tre ranked second with two golds and four silvers while Binh Van Club from Ho Chi Minh City occupied the third position with two golds, one silver and four bronzes.
The fourth and fifth places went to the host Bac Lieu with two golds and three bronzes and Ho Chi Minh City’s Thu Duc Club with two golds respectively.
The three-day tournament drew the participation of over 200 Judo martial artists from 31 clubs nationwide. The athletes competed in 10 different weight divisions from 42kg to 100kg for male and female.
Also at the tournament last year, Ben Tre ranked first with three golds, one silver and one bronze, followed by Bac Lieu and Da Nang.
Over 1,000 athletes join Quang Tri sport games
The 2010 Quang Tri provincial Sport Games took place from April 10-11 with the participation of more than 1,000 athletes from 34 teams.
The athletes competed for 123 sets of medal in 11 sport events including marathon, rowing, stick pushing, pentanque, vovinam, tug of war, karatedo, swimming, football, track and field and volleyball.
After two days of competition, Huong Hoa district won the first prize. They were followed by Quang Tri town and Vinh Linh district.
As for prizes for organisations and agents, the first and second places went to the Provincial Police Department and the Provincial Education and Training Department.
The event was also considered as a good opportunity to select excellent athletes for the upcoming National Sport Games, due to be held in the central city of Da Nang.
