Shooters blast records at nationals

Thanh, 23, is an elite shooter, who won two golds in the Laos SEA Games last year, after a two-year training course with the Ha Noi team.

“I’m so happy to see Thanh has progressed as a sharpshooter both for Ha Noi and the national team. It’s very hard to train an athlete for an Olympic event,” said Ha Noi team’s coach Nguyen Tan Nam, 47, who retired from the national team two years ago.

“I’ve retired now, but I’ve successfully trained a good substitute for the national team,” Nam says. Ha Noi also won the team event yesterday.

Two-time Olympian Nguyen Manh Tuong, 50, from the Ministry of Public Security did his best in the men’s individual 25m pistol to record 589 points in 60 shots, but the Army team won the team gold.

In the women’s 10m mixed mobile target air rifle, Hanoian Dang Hong Ha grabbed the individual gold with 369 points. She also helped Ha Noi win the team event.

In the men’s 10m mixed mobile target air rifle, Nguyen Manh Cuong finished first, scoring 374 from 40 shots.

The Army team also won the team gold.

The tournament closes today.
