Club Chair Nguyen Vinh Tho revealed that the contract was signed on May 9 in Hanoi. Under the document’s terms, Chung will work for Navibank Saigon until the end of the 2010 football season. Chung’s mission is to keep the team with V-League and has asked the club’s managers to improve its forces.
“Our performance is not good due to our weak forces. I believe with new players in the second phase and the talent of coach Mai Duc Chung, our team will pass this difficult stage to stay with V-League,” offered Tho.
After 11 matches, the club had only one victory, three draws and seven losing games, ranking at the bottom of V-League 2010. Coach Vu Quang Bao resign because of this poor showing.
While seeking for a new coach, the team lost in the 11th game. The first leg of V-League will finish after two games.
Chung will fly from Hanoi to HCM City on May 11 to take over the team. He will have his first game on May 16 against Hanoi T&T at HCM City’s Thong Nhat stadium.
After eight matches at V-League, Binh Duong fired Chung even though the team had not played poorly, ranking the 4th at V-League and entering the second round of the AFC Cup (the C2 cup in Asia). Hai Phong invited Chung to work as its technical director, but he refused as to avoid competing with Coach Vuong Tien Dung.
