New national golf tourney tees off next month

A national golf tournament, the Matrix Golf Trophy Series, will tee off at the Vietnam Golf&Country Club in Ho Chi Minh City next month.

The tournament, open to all golfers, both locals and foreigners with a handicap from 0-24, will have two qualifying rounds.

While the qualifying round for golfers in the southern region will take place at the Vietnam Golf& Country Club on June 11, the round for northern residents will be held at the Phoenix Golf&Resort on July 30.

A total of 60 golfers, with 30 selected from each of the qualifying rounds, will play in the final round at the Da Nang Golf Club on November 26-27.

Besides men’s and women’s divisions, the tournament also has a division for juniors aged 12-16.

The tournament, organised by the Phuc An Ngoc Viet Golf Company and Golf Today Magazine, is intended to be an annual event.

Thailand top futsal tournament for disadvantaged children

The Thai team snatched the championship title at the 11th Futsal Tournament of Disadvantaged Children held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 29.

Thailand beat Hanoi 7-3 in the final. Earlier, in another competition for third place, hosts Ho Chi Minh City defeated Gia Lai 4-1 to bag the bronze medal.

With 16 goals, Thanachot Charoenjan from Thailand won the ’Top Scorer’ title while Khac Trung from Hanoi took the ’Most Valuable Player’. The ’Best Goalkeeper’ title went to Nguyen Cao Ky from Ho Chi Minh City

The tournament, co-organised by the Ho Chi Minh City Cong An (Ho Chi Minh City Police)’s Newspaper and the Vietnam Sports Newspaper brought together six Vietnamese teams and two international teams from Thailand and the Philippines.

Vietnam hosts 14th Asian junior athletics champs

The 14th Asian Junior Athletics Championship will begin at the Hanoi My Dinh National Sports Stadium, Hanoi on July 1.

According to the organising committee, 37 teams comprising of nearly 700 athletes and coaches have registered to take part in the four-day competition.

All the preparations, including the sports venues, medical services and communications facilities have been completed on time to ensure the event will run smoothly.
