Vietnam wins bronze medal at Asian Wrestling Championship; Frankfurt trounce Dong Tam Long An 3-1; Europa League champs to play friendlies in Vietnam; Kien Quoc and My Trang snatch singles titles Vietnam wins bronze medal at Asian Wrestling Championship Nguyen Thi Lua of Vietnam has won a bronze medal at the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championship in New Delhi, India. Lua, competing in the free wrestling 48 kg category for women, on May 14, defeated Eleonora from Kazakhstan 2-0 and advanced to the semifinal where she lost to Murafuko from Japan. However, she was not discouraged by the failure and went on to overcome a Kyrgyzstan rival, Miriniso, to grab the bronze medal. Vietnam sent 10 athletes and coaches to the championship. Frankfurt trounce Dong Tam Long An 3-1 Eintracht Frankfurt stunned Dong Tam Long An 3-1 in the second friendly match at Thong Nhat stadium yesterday. It was Dong Tam Long An who took the lead when Issawa opened the scoring in the 30th minute. After the interval, Frankfurt brought pressure to bear on the hosts. Substitute Altintop equalised with his close-range strike. Three minutes later Heller doubled the score and Tsoumou fired the third in the 84th minute, sealing a 3-1 victory over Dong Tam Long An. T&T Group chairman Do Quang Hien has said that the Europa League champions Atletico Madrid will play friendly matches in Vietnam this August. Hien said he wanted Atletico Madrid to come as soon as possible and Spain’s top-tier La Liga club said it would send its players to Vietnam in early August. The Spanish club also confirmed it would send all its best players to Vietnam for the matches. Hien said the squad from the Spanish capital would play one friendly with Vietnam’s national team and another with one of his V-League clubs, either Hanoi T&T or V-League champions Da Nang. The amount of money needed to invite the Spanish side to Vietnam hasn’t been made known, but Hien said he was taking care of it all. Kien Quoc and My Trang snatch singles titles Ho Chi Minh City’s Tran Huy Bao made a big surprise at the tournament as he beat seasoned Tran Tuan Quynh 4-2 in the men’s singles semi-final. However, Bao could not make it again as he lost easily 4-0 to Doan Kien Quoc in the final. Meanwhile, Mai Hoang My Trang claimed the title in the women’s singles event after defeating another player from Ho Chi Minh City Mai Xuan Hang 4-2. Ho Chi Minh City won titles in women’s team, women’s doubles, women’s singles events to top the tournament. Hanoi snatched golds in the men’s team, men’s doubles and men’s singles events to rank second while the third place went to the Military team with a gold in the mixed doubles event.
