Vietnam wins gold at Asian Taekwondo Championships 2010
The Vietnamese team has won 1 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze at the Asian Taekwondo Championships 2010 which is being held in Kazakhstan.
The gold medal belonged to athlete Nguyen Dinh Toan in the singles event. He and fellow athlete Thu Ngan grabbed the silver medal in the doubles event and the Vietnamese team gained the bronze medal in the team event.
Along with their achievements in the 2009 World Championships and the 25th SEA Games, Vietnamese athletes once more affirm their strength in taekwondo.
The Vietnamese team is now hoping to gain more good results in this year’s Asian championships.
The Asian Taekwondo Federation on Wednesday picked Viet Nam to host the continental championship in 2012.
It will be good preparation ahead of the London Olympics in the same year.
Also in 2012, Viet Nam will host the World Military Taekwondo Championship
Viet Nam Grand Prix to debut
The Viet Nam Volleyball Federation (VVF) will launch its first volleyball tournament, the Grand Prix-Alatca Cup, at the Viet Tri Gymnasium in Phu Tho Province from May 22-30.
Sixteen top men’s and women’s teams will compete in a round robin in two groups. The top two teams from each group will earn a place in the semi-final.
The winners in the men’s and women’s categories will pocket VND120 million (US$6,200) in prize money each.
K+ introduces sport news
K+, the biggest direct-to-home (DTH) television subscription service in Viet Nam, on Thursday announced that they will produce a daily sport news programme Rendezvous on K+1 channel.
The news will be aired from five to eight minutes at 6.30pm and repeated at 10pm everyday.
Rendezvous will update results of local and international sport games as well as provide commentary, analysis and expert opinion about upcoming sport events.
K+ is a DTH service ran by Vietnam Satellite Digital Television, a joint-venture between Viet Nam Television and the French Canal+.
Paddlers compete in Moscow
Viet Nam will take part in the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Moscow tomorrow.
Viet Nam has sent its three best players to the event – Doan Kien Quoc, Tran Tuan Quynh and Dinh Quang Linh.
Viet Nam will meet Brazil (world 26) tomorrow, Latvia (51) next Monday, and both Greece (30) and Bulgaria (45) next Tuesday. One day later, they will meet Norway for their last match.
Win a trip to the World Cup
Viet Nam Digital Television Corporation (VTC) ‘s 24hours Sport newspaper and Dura Star have offered readers a trip to South Africa during the World Cup next month.
Organisers said two winners from a lucky draw, which will be held in Ha Noi on June 10, will win a tour which includes two return air tickets, accommodation and entrance tickets for the third-place play-off match.
Organisers will also present six football shirts from some of the tournament favourites, and 10 official 2010 World Cup footballs.
The World Cup will take place in South Africa from June 11 to July
Vietnam to join world team table tennis championships
Three Vietnam’s top players Doan Kien Quoc, Tran Tuan Quynh and Dinh Quang Linh will take part in the 2010 World Team Table Tennis Championships, due to be held in Moscow from May 23-30.
This is considered a good opportunity for them to gain experience from world-leading players.
At the recent National Championships competing for Nhan Dan Newspaper Cup held in Tien Giang, Doan Kien Quoc successfully defended his championship title in the men’s singles event as well as made a contribution to the Hanoi team’s success at the tournament.
Farmers begin final round of football tourny in September
Amateur footballers will compete in the final round of the National Farmers Football Championship in the southern province of Long An from September 15-25, organizers announced on May 19.
The event, organised by Nong Thon Ngay Nay (Countryside Today) newspaper, will see 28 teams from around the nation competing in seven groups at the qualifiers in Tien Giang’s My Tho Stadium in August.
Hosts Long An and the seven other qualifying teams will battle for their spot in the final round, which will see the winners receive a VND 100 million (US$ 5,100) cash-prize.(
National student’s football championship opens
The 2010 National Student’s Football Championship - VTV Cup was held nationwide from May 20.
The tournament is jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnam Football Federation and VTC Multimedia Corporation.
The qualifying round will be held from May 20 to September 30 in nine zones including Thai Nguyen, Hanoi, Hai Phong, South of North Delta region, Thua Thien - Hue city, Da Nang, Southern Centre Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta.
The final will take place from November 6-16 in the southern city of Can Tho.
