Though the Vietnamese national football squad didn’t gain a point in May, they still moves up one grade (117th) in FIFA’s ranking for May.
Vietnam had only one friendly game in May against Frankfurt club from Germany (not considered by FIFA for ranking) so it doesn’t have any new points, 231, but it still gains one more grade.
Thailand is still the leading team in Southeast Asia but it lost 18 points in May. With 276 points, Thailand ranks at the 106th position.
Cambodia has the worst result among Southeast Asian teams. It lost 24 points to fall by 14 grades. There is no change for other Southeast Asian countries. Singapore ranks at the 127th and Indonesia at the 137th.
In Asia, Australia is still at the top with 886 points, ranking the 20th worldwide, followed by Japan (45th) and South Korea (47th).
With only 20 friendly matches in May, the positions of the top 8 don’t change much. Brazil still ranks the first, followed by Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Argentina, Britain and France.
Of the top 20, only Russia and Croatia will not participate in the FIFA World Cup 2010. It will be difficult for them to maintain their positions next month when World Cup begins.
FIFA will announce its June ranking on July 14.
