Eleven Vietnamese taekwondo athletes are now in Astana, Kazakhstan to participate in the 19th Asian Taekwondo Championships from May 20-23.
From collecting rubbish to world champion
Six female artists including Cao Thi Kim Chi, Doan Thi Huong Giang, Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao, Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu, Nghiem Thi Huyen and Ha Thai Nguyen will compete in 47kg, 51kg, 55kg, 59kg, 63kg and 67kg categories, respectively.
Five male athletes, named Nguyen Kim Long, Nguyen Quang Huy, Duong Thanh Tam, Luong Minh Dat and Nguyen Trong Cuong, will play in 54kg, 58kg, 72kg, 78kg and 84 kg categories.
Vietnam’s hope is laid on Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu who once won a silver medal at the 15th Asian Games and a gold medal at the Asian Martial Arts Games 2009.
The 19th Asian Taekwondo Championships attracts 20 teams from China, India, the Republic of Korea, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
