VietNamNet Bridge - 17 year-old chess master Vo Thi Kim Phung snatched a gold medal at the 2010 Asian Girls’ U-20 Chess Championship, which wrapped up in India on June 24.

After nine rounds, Kim Phung and Nakhbayeva from Kazakhstan both secured 7.5 points, but the Vietnamese chess master won the top honors title. The bronze went to Padmini Rout from India.

This is the second time Vietnam has bagged a gold medal at the tournament. Nguyen Thi Tuong Van earned the other top award 12 years ago.

The 2010 Asian Girls’ U-20 Chess Championship brought together 53 young masters from eleven countries and territories in Asia.
