The students will compete in track and field, swimming, gymnastics, table tennis, badminton, basketball, sepak takraw, golf, tennis and volleyball events.

The competition, the second of its kind for Southeast Asian students, draws more than 4,000 athletes from six Southeast Asian countries - Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Opening on July 13 at the Cheras stadium in Kuala Lumpur, the event aims to expand exchanges of sporting activities and strengthen and develop friendship among students in regional countries.

The nine-day event will also cover cultural exchanges and tours in order to help regional participants to showcase their countries’ cultural identities.

The Vietnam delegation ranked second at the first regional sport competition in 2009 behind host Thailand.
